Summer progress

It's been a while since I've written a renovation post, but truthfully, the progress has been uninteresting. June and July was nothing but clearing out and demo. After cleaning out the last of the personal items and furniture in the house, we had to demolish and clear out several of the plaster walls and ceilings to prepare them for addressing a few structural issues.

Pictured above is progress in the dining room. We've cleared out the plaster and lath from the ceiling and the walls that need to be removed or repaired. All that plaster was dirty and dusty and heavy and it took several weeks of just digging it out of the house with shovels.

This one is the kitchen. All the wood paneling had to come out, then the plaster underneath is. Once again, this was a several-week affair that involved moving several tons of plaster and debris.

We also hosted our first get-together in July. We had a few friends over for a barbeque to celebrate the beginning of the Sharptown Carnival. For the week leading up to the party, we power washed the outside of the house and screened-in porch, repaired screens, and did some general lawn maintenance.

While we are unfortunately rather behind schedule, the house is really starting to feel like a place we will be able to make into a comfortable home for ourselves.
